Seathwaite

 

Seathwaite is a hamlet in the Borrowdale Valley, Cumbria. The nearest major town is Keswick 8 miles away. It has been "famous" for many years as being the wettest inhabited place in England.

Between 19th and 20th November 2009 Seathwaite Farm received 314.4mm of rainfall in a 24hr period. This is a record for a 24hr period (source Met Office), however the 0900-0900hr record still remains with Martinstown, Dorset 18th July 1955 (279mm) .

This 24hr period  record was broken on the 4th and 5th December 2015 during Storm Desmond by Honister Pass 341.4mm rainfall fell between 1800 and 1800hrs

The highest 0900-0900hrs amount is 264.4mm recorded at Thirlmere on the 5th December 2015 (Storm Desmond)
